The speakers

Rob Hampton

Portfolio GP, Occupational Physician and GPwSI in Drug and Alcohol Treatment, Leicester

Rob Hampton qualified as a Doctor in 1986 and has worked in General Practice since 1990. Having worked as a GP Principal for many years, he chose to become a Freelance GP in 2012. Recent portfolio includes sessions with 2 GP practices and roles as a GP with a Special Interest (GPSI) for people with drugs & alcohol problems, musculoskeletal pain and occupational medicine. Other roles have included RCGP Council and PHE Medical Champion for Health & Work till 2020. He is a co-opted member of the BMA Occupational Medicine Committee.

He was Clinical Director for one of the DWP Fit for Work pilots (2008-12) that provided a referral service for GPs to help people with chronic conditions back to work. This led to a number of follow-on projects aimed at improving care for the people of working age with chronic musculoskeletal pain conditions. These were recognised through various awards, including BMJ and NHSE.

His current practice includes helping people with long term sickness absence and/or drug & alcohol problems His professional interest is to improve GP confidence in managing sickness absence, fit notes and people with addictions. This includes signposting to authoritative and motivational tools that will allow patients and their GPs to de-medicalise when appropriate and generally feel supported towards better control of symptoms.

Daniel Murphy

GP Principal, Honiton Surgery Staff Grade Rheumatologist, Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital Versus Arthritis MSK Champion

Danny works as a GP partner in Honiton, and Staff Grade Rheumatologist in Exeter. He is a medical advisor for the National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society and the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society and has worked for the RCGP as a Clinical Champion for Inflammatory Arthritis. In 2018 Danny wrote the RCGP Inflammatory Arthritis Toolkit, he has an interest in clinical research and improving GP confidence in the diagnosis and management of inflammatory disease. Danny is also a Versus Arthritis MSK Champion programme graduate.

Johan Holte

NHSE/I South East Regional Specialty Lead MSK Consultant Physiotherapist Sutton Health and Care Alliance, Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust Versus Arthritis MSK Champion

Johan Holte is a Consultant Physiotherapist and clinical lead for Sutton Health and Care. He is NHSE/I Specialty Regional Lead for the South East for MSK and sits on the executive board for The National Back Pain Clinical Network (NBP-CN). He has a special interest in spinal pain and patient centred care as each patient is individual with specific needs. He has completed an NIHR funded Master’s in research at the University of Brighton. His research project was titled ‘the lived experience of spinally referred leg pain, a descriptive phenomenological study.’ Johan is also a Versus Arthritis MSK Champion programme graduate.
